The Curse of Khalsa continues…

Stallionz FC 5 – 1 Maestro FC (Gerald)
Match Review by Zi Rong

Before we dive straight into this week’s match review, the writer would like to appreciate the team’s effort in today’s game considering the tri-zillions (indirect/direct) mistakes committed by the writer himself. Nonetheless, today’s game against Stallionz FC was held at the Khalsa Association, MFC’s CURSED yard. Despite a blessed weather during the game, MFC seems to be unable to break the deadly curse and grab the 3 points home from Stallionz FC where both teams ended with a 1-1 draw from the previous meeting.

The match started lively with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Calvin between the sticks, Zi Rong-Norris-Chris Tan-Jonathan holding up the defence, Gerald-Howard protecting the back 4, Abi-Guo Xian-Kartik as the midfielders and Jeramy as the lone fire power upfront. Gary and Brian were rested for further actions. The match went well in the first 10-15mins with MFC having several shots but most of it either went to the spectator stands Row Z or well saved by Stallionz FC keeper which did a pretty good job guarding his posts throughout the game. The first goal came when the Stallionz FC keeper unleashed a long goal kick into MFC’s half and bounced off the ground infront of Zi Rong, towards Calvin. Being pressured by the oncoming no. 77, Zi Rong attempted a back pass to Calvin and it went into the save hands of our keeper (in a wrong way). Indirect free kick was given to Stallionz and despite the brilliant save from Calvin, Stallionz FC’s striker capitalized on the loose ball from the save and scored within short range.
The second goal came from a powerful header from a corner kick by Stallionz FC which was clearly a foul on Jonathan who was marking him.

Third Goal was a result of miscommunication between Gerald and Zi Rong. A back pass from Gerald intended for Zi Rong went straight to Stallionz’s no. 10 striker. After a good turn that shook off the off-fitness Zi Rong, the striker went on with a run pass Chris and slots it through MFC’s net.
Forth goal: a free kick from outside the box which passes through MFC’s wall and Calvin.
Half time 4-0 to Stallionz FC.

MFC came back stronger in the second half with much more aggression and commitment after some serious team talk during the break. Captain GX emphasized on the team’s will to play and the lack of aggression. The team started the second half with the same formation as the first half. Within minutes into the 2nd half, a 50-50 challenge on the left wing saw Zi Rong being substituted for Brian. In the writer’s opinion, the Stallionz FC player should be awarded with a warning for dangerous play as the challenge might land our player with broken toes.

The consolation goal for MFC came from an indirect free kick by Gerald in the penalty box. A good low yet powerful sliding shot by our MFC’s Manhunt Champion, Gerald saw the ball blast through the “Great/Long Wall of Stallionz” leaving the keeper with no chance.
Norris also paid a price for his effort against the rebellious Stallionz. A long pass from midfield landed in Norris’s path with only the keeper to beat but a bad collision with the keeper left Norris with a huge hole in his tights and a big bruise at the groin area. “Very lucky that his favorite part of the body is not injured. Hahahha.” – Captain GX.

The final goal of the match came from a long range effort from Stallionz FC which looped above MFC’s Joe Hart into the back of the net.
Final whistle: 5 -1

Good points
1. Good weather. I wouldn’t say it’s a good pitch but ok lah.
2. First 10-15mins was quite ok with several shots at the Stallionz’s goal.
3. Everyone in the team has been very encouraging despite the tri-zillions mistakes
4. Improvement in the 2nd half which only conceded 1 goal and also scored 1.

Bad points
1. Bad turn out. Only 13 players available (3 of them are keepers aka Gary, Calvin, Brian). I think Stallionz FC brought about almost 20 players?
2. MFC players show no will and poor passing
3. MFC still not used to the small pitch @ Khalsa
4. The list can go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.
5. The Curse of Khalsa continues…..
