Its just not our day...

Stoke City 1 : 1 MaestroFC (Abi)

Match Review by Chris Tan

Captain GX instructed that I have to write a colourful review. (Thinking the hard work that would be involving twisting colours... Please imagine that this was written with excellent colour HD display)

Maestro FC was once again a major talking point as a resilient Stoke City narrowly achieved a draw out of a spirited Maestro side at the Stadium of Orchid Park.

Before I start, I would like to thank everyone who attended my wedding. Hope you guys enjoyed yourself, and definitely an enjoyable and fun night for me. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........YumYumYum......Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm(Never ending YUM from Maestro when everyone else already "SAY")

In today's game, as a match reviewer, it was a pill hard to swallow. Nevertheless, Maestro played well with fluid passing and excellent opportunities created. The match was yet to be won, the day was yet conquered. The opponent walked away with seems-to-be deserving point but they are certainly sure that lady luck was on their side today throughout the whole game.

The match started with 18 or more players - A substantial amount of players from the initial few within the watsapp chat. This led to Captain GX to work out a plan for this type of crowd. Additionally, he would like to work on a strategy that he had been ploying since he warmed the seat as a captain this season. A 3-2-4-1 formation! This formation requires delicate workmanship within many departments of football which GX claimed that it would be useful for Maestro to adopt.

Since from the beginning, Maestro has been dominating possession due to the perfect combination in defense-midfield. Fluid passing and creating many chances whenever possible. In the first opportunity, in a scramble of a loose ball, Howard managed to find a free space to shoot from just outside the penalty box. The ball fell awkwardly wide. After many shooting chances gone missing by Maestro, Stoke suddenly produced a counter-attack. With only Alan being the center-back covering two strikers, the striker easily outwitted the off-side trap and went on to beat the keeper. 1 - 0 to Stoke in the only chance of the half.

Despite being the better side of the half, there is lack of finishing within Maestro. Chances gone begging on every minute, and frustration starts to set in. However, somewhere in our hearts - there is still room for Confidence in the team (Perhaps due to the weak opponents as well). The more desperate we get, the more chances we create. On the last opportunity of the half, Hakim managed to square one ball to Norris on an open net, but Norris simply misjudged the slippery ball. (Sorry, I cannot narriate every single moves that Maestro produced today. But I can guarantee you, if you are watching from the stands, you will be like watching Man City nerve biting season finale with you having your nails shaved clean by your teeth.)

During the half time, GX reinstate the importance of the role of the formation. Everyone was claiming it should be an easy match. The words simply choked everyone's mouths at the end of the match.

The second half started as what everyone expected. Maestro pouring-in to every corner of the field, and shoot in all sorts of position. Credits to Jonathan especially, he was the only Defensive midfielder that cleared the dirty rubbish that the crowding strikers left behind. There is not much of a requirement to defend anyway, we just need to find a goal.

If there is a due date to an unfinished work, perhaps the doubt on Abi face was naturally not profound (Simply means never thought Abi could be the MAN to finish the required job). Abi after receiving the long ball from Alan, ran down the flank on the left. He resembled Theo Walcott last night Arsenal first goal against Newcastle. He scored in a Thiery Henry typical style. Later he celebrated the goal like South-Africans players on the pitch with dance move that simply pointless to describe.

The game ended with 1 - 1 draw. With Maestro being the harder of both sides to chew.

My opinion: (Strictly based on my view, at least pay some respect to my fantasy expert views - Top 0.1% around the world for BPL)
The formation 3-2-4-1 is a well-thought formation with little effect. Firstly, players have very little idea of the movement, play-style, and tactics regarding this formation. I believe a detailed plan should be told to every single player on their role and responsiblity. Secondly, the formation actually crowds the midfield and attacks effectively. However, this is a double-edged sword. With man pouring forwards, this leaves defence more vulnerable especially in the certain portion of the field. Additionally, the inability to score today could be due to overcrowding of strikers - Too many options, too much desire to pass. The typical Arsenal past failure to a game. Since our strikers are typical individualistic in terms of finishing (Like Rong An, GX style who beat defenders and finish off the game themselves), the game play could be better suit if we could control some factors in this formation. Lastly, the formation actually favoured a more wide plays with witty wingers getting wide. This was not evident in today's game.

Nevertheless, this could be the first game to this formation. There are many opportunities and areas of improvement. This match does not mean the end, but the beginning of a dawn of our brand new formation.

Before I leave the post for you guys to enjoy reading, I shall share all the wedding photos taken.

Good Points
  • Good weather. Good pitch.
  • The persistent of the formation is an excellent thought, we played both halves with the same formation despite the trailing first half.
  • Despite the draw, the opportunities created today was terrific. Good defence to coordinate the overall picture as well.
  • Excellent goal-keeping by opposition to deny us the victory we desire.
  • The game is exciting, it is like watching Stoke City VS Man Utd. Stoke defend in every department possible, while Man Utd tries to squeeze in the ball in the goalline.

Bad Points
  • Too many offside traps that should not been call upon. Is the referee against us today? At least 10 offside calls being blown that all are rather too close to judge an offside.
  • Finishing. Enough said.
  • A heated discussion in the penalty box due to an unnecessary clash between opposition with Chris and Kartik. This left Hakim lost his usual cool - This means serious business if he loses his cool.
  • More flare required in this formation. We need practice to achieve more.
