MFC 0 vs Babylon FC 3:
Match Review by Gary
This week
match is between MFC and Babylon at St Wilfred, a team that MFC is well aware
and respectful of after being thrashed 7-0 previously at Tampines Safra.
Despite the previous scoreline, MFC was certainly geared up to give Babylon FC
a tough game. The weather was fine without the usual scorching weather
considering the game was played at 1pm and Captain Guoxian has around 16
players at his disposal. Captain Guoxian adopted a 4-5-1 formation, with Calvin
in goal, Norris and Alan as Centre back and Augustine as a lone striker. One of
the highlights of the game was our beloved referee, which several MFC players
claim to resemble that of prominent figure Warren Officer Muthu in the
Jack Neo’s film “吓到笑”.
The game started off at a
fast pace, quite possibly due to the desire of both players to get the 1st
goal. FC Babylon was certainly dominating the majority share of the possession
as they continued their trade mark passing and sharp movement off and on the
ball, giving MFC players a hell of a time chasing and closing down the wingers.
FC Babylon loves to spray through balls pass the MFC high backline. However, MFC’s defense was cohesive and did
well to stop several dangerous through balls but it was not long before FC
Babylon record their 1st goal of the game. A nice looping ball from
the midfield found their striker with a 1 on 1 chance against Calvin, and he
slot it calmly pass goalkeeper Calvin. 1-0 the score! MFC did not have any clear
cut chances in the 1st half, with an effort notably from Gerald. FC
Babylon was certainly holding the ball well, playing nice crossfield passes throughout
the game but credit to MFC players for being disciplined in their defending and
staying cohesive as a team. 1-0 the 1st half ended.
The 2nd half
resumed with Captain Guoxian making several changes, with Little Eric replacing
as left back and Gary in goal. The 2nd half was relatively similar
as FC Babylon continued to pile immense pressure on the MFC’s defense and their
effort paid off as a cross field pass caught Little Eric off guard, and the
striker dispatch it coolly pass Goalkeeper Gary. MFC did rally, as we got into
dangerous positions and threaten FC Babylon with a few set pieces and free
kicks but to no avail as FC Babylon defence was certainly resilient. FC Babylon
got their 3th goal of the game as a clearance from Norris ricocheted off his
chest, falling nicely to the opponent’s striker and leaving goalkeeper Gary no
chance. However, it has to be mentioned that the score line could have been
more, if not for the splendid 3-man defence composing of Zi Rong, Norris and
Alan. It was not long before Referee Muthu blew the final whistle. Final Score
3-0 to FC Babylon.
