Double J “s” seals MFC win
Match Review by Walter
Maestro FC 2 : 1 Kallang Roar FC (Jeramy, Jonathan)
A strong lineup which consists of 16 players was made available for the friendly game at Bedok South Secondary. MFC were looking for a bright start right after kick off following their 2-0 win last week. MFC welcomed Eugene and Brian back after their injuries and also not forgetting Gary and Brian that just landed in SG on Saturday. The Captain approached the game with a defensive 4-5-1 tactic based on the fact that we had a lot more defensive minded players to rotate with. Midfield lung “less” maestro, Eugene, opted to play for the opponent after being offered a pay per match negotiation with their British Captain.
1st Half
The more experienced MFC were heading into the match under the immense 3pm heat with much confidence and sweat. However the opponents were not planning to give the league boys an easy game without a hard fight. MFC’s starting XI failed to excite the MFC bench as the opponents snuffled out quite a lot their early attacks and inaccurate passing. That seriously dampened the party mood of the Bees. Over at the opponents end, they were closing down the MFCians faster than we expected with Eugene doing pretty well as their LB. The Bees did come close on a couple of chances lead by Abi and Augustine, but they were never looked too difficult for the goalkeeper. A tactical change midway into the first half saw Jeramy and Co. coming up from the bench to switch the game play back to the Bee’s possession. A good clinical strike from Jeramy within the penalty box lifted the spirits of the boys who needed a goal badly. His shot was one too powerful for the GK to save. 1-0 to the Bees! Kallang Roar FC was looking desperately for a breakthrough and got their chance 5mins before the halftime whistle. They capitalized on a defensive communication between the defence to slot home a well taken shot that was almost saved by Brian. The shot took a wicked bounce off the bar and went across the goal line to make it 1-1 at halftime.
2nd Half
*Applause* was ringing around the field during the interval as Jeffery tried to “pick up” 2 babes to help him literally, pick up, the soccer balls that had been launched over the school fence during the 1st half. He casually asked for the favor from the girls which led to a lot of wolf cries surrounding the field with Norris’ cry being the most obvious (he was shouting aloud to the girls his Hp number).
The next 45minutes started off with a more attacking 4-4-2 formation with Jonathan pairing up with Jeramy up front. This tactical change of playing Jonathan upfront raised a few eyebrows despite having more proven attackers being available. The Captain’s feel for the game was to engage a more physical presence upfront with someone having good control on the ball with both feet. Jon’s play style immediately fit the bill and that proved vital as he secured the win for MFC. Guo Xian put a good cross down the right flank after beating the defenders at the by line. His precise cross met Jon which had an easy header across the goal to make it 2-1. It could have been more goals if not for the wasted chances by several other MFCians.
The final whistle brought the game to an end with much to be happy about. We will be looking forward to our next match- MFC vs Vasantham All Stars. Stay buzzing tuned!
