Maestro FC Vs FC Rovers Match Review

Maestro FC 2 : 0 FC Rovers (Rong An x2) [3 : 0 win for Maestro due to walkover]
Match Review by Alan Chiang

Two well-taken goals in the first half by Maestro’s leading scorer, Rong An, was enough to send a message to league leader FC Rovers that Maestro meant business from the start of the game. But midway through the second half, disagreements with the referees' call led to the match being called off.

Captain Walter stood with the 4-5-1 formation, with Jeramy, who made a sacrifice for the team to stick between the posts, with Alan, Wee Hian, Kartik and Walter holding the formidable defence, Gerald, Guo Xian, Norris forming the new middle of the park, with Abi and Augustine the speedy wingers and Rong An the hotshot up front. Lil Eric, Jeffery, Joel and Jonathan were all waiting to get into the action as well.

Maestro began the game, full of energy and ideas and the opponent was taken aback when Rong An picked up a loose ball in front of their defence and slotted the ball into the back of the net. It’s a start of a wake-up call for the opponent. They had a couple of successive runs, but Maestro managed to escape the fires before the ball ended up in Jeramy’s good hands.

The second goal by Maestro was a truly good teamwork. The goal began from the defence, through the midfield and to Rong An, our hot shot, who just can’t be stopped on this fine afternoon. Maestro continued to play as a team, shifting the ball around, and neutralising the opponent’s offence. Maestro held off and took the lead at 2-0, at half time.

Second half saw a great deal of incidents, mostly involving FC Rovers and the referee's calls. Yellow cards were awarded for several Rovers players but the match was thrown into disrepute when a striker from FC Rovers was sent off for a second yellow card offence. The next few minutes were a blur as some FC Rovers players got involved with the referee. While trying to help diffuse the situation, some Maestro players also got hit one way or another. In the end, Maestro had to walk away from the pitch and let the organiser settle the matter.

It was a truly a game which ended with mixed emotions. 2 awesome goals from Rong An and lots of hard running, good defending from the team. Had the match not been called off, Maestro would most probably have been winners, being the first to beat arguably the strongest team in the league, given that the league leaders were trailing 2-0 and had their star striker sent off. The non footballing events however shadowed the victory. Let us all reflect on our walkover victory today while appreciating our personal safety and health.

High Points
1) 15 brave and great players
2) Good teamwork, 2 fantastic goals
3) We appreciated the sporting behavior of a few FC Rovers players who came forth to apologize

Low Points
1) The heat at the 1pm sun
2) The non footballing events which resulted in early call-off of the game
