Maestro back to winning ways

Maestro FC 2-0 Vipers FC (Big Eric, Rong An).

Match Review by Lil Eric.

What does the number '3' mean to you in a football match? To the writer, it means a valuable '3points'.

Maestro FC travelled up East this weekend to Springfield Sec School with only one thing in mind and that is to claim all 3 points against Vipers FC. Vipers FC is no stranger to most of us as they were our opponent in our opening Xleague match. FYI - The first meeting between these two teams ended in a heart thumping 3-3 draw.

However, history did not repeat itself this time round with Vice-Capt Gerald (spotting a Hakan Sukur lookalike mohawk hairstyle) adopting a 4-5-1 formation. The starting line-up includes
Gary in goal. Howard, Alan, Big Eric and Kartik in defence. Augustine, Han rong, Jonathan, Gerald (VC), Rong'An in midfield and Guo Xian alone upfront.

Maestro FC attacked right at the start of the whistle with all guns blazing at their opponent. With good ball control and calm passing, the opponents were left scratching their heads. Many chances were created in favour of Maestro but the shots went wide. The opening goal arrived just before the stroke of half time courtesy of an assist from Rong An with a beautiful pass to Big Eric who put the ball in the back of the opponent's net. (Rong'An told the writer that he actually sacrifice his ankle when he made the assist and remind the writer to write this down). Maestro went into the break with confidence.

Half Time score: 1-0.

The second half started with Capt Walter making changes to the team line-up with a 4-4-2 formation. The line up includes
Gary still in goal. (C)Walter, Wee Hian, Norris and the writer himself forming up the back four. Augustine, Paul, Hanrong and Hakim forming the midfield department and the strikeforce consisting of Rong An and Jason Zhu. (Yes. Your eyes wasn't playing any trick on you. Jason's name was on the scoresheet against Vipers in the previous meeting). The second goal arrived soon after kick-off thanks to a thunderbolt strike from Rong An just outside the penalty box. Leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the ground. Did anyone notice the celebration between Rong An and the writer? Vipers FC were seen pushing forward in search of a goal only to let the solid defence of Maestro intercepting every part of their attempt. On a few occasions, Vipers FC were seen attempting to injure the maestro players with some dirty challenge. Maestro FC was dominating the match throughout the second half with good challenges being made and important clearance.
Soon, the no-nonsense Indian referee (who sounded like a sergeant major) blew for the final whistle with Maestro bagging all 3points. Let's continue our winning streak while we look forward to our next league match.  Happy New Year!

High Points
1) What a way to kickstart the new year with a win over our opponent!
2) Credit should be given to every single Maestro player who work their socks out during the game.
3) The referee was a no-nonsense referee. Try arguing with him and he will brandish you with a card. Red or Yellow? Depends on your luck.

Low Points
1) The opponent trying hard on a few occasions to injure the Maestro players.
2) Many good chances were squandered else Maestro could be 4-0 before half time.
3) Someone accidentally spilled milo onto Norris's handphone. Who could it be?
