17/4/11 MFC VS CBS Marines Match Review

Match Review by Chris Tan

Final Score: CBS Marines 3 : 6 MFC (Augustine 2, Logan 1, Norris 1, Alex 1, Gifford 1) (Aylwin 2 Opposition)

After suffering the biggest defeat last week, Maestro wanted someone to get revenge on. Despite the humiliation last week, Maestro learnt a lot, and grew more mature in terms of game play in order to be one of the best teams that opposition feared. There were worries around Maestro prior to the match due to the current weather pattern, even the weatherman had a difficult time to predict the ever changing climate. Luckily the sun blazed across the field, and the players would not have a difficult time to adapt the pitch conditions.

Alan wanted comfortable 4 – 5- 1 formation with the same usual players while Aylwin volunteered to join across the opposition in order to get the match experience needed. It did not take more than 10 minutes to open the floodgates; Augustine found 2 goals easily into the net. The neat finishes made the CBS Marine right defender looked like he was a novice. The centre midfielders had a good first 20 minutes as well, simple passes often opened clear passes to the forwards. Walter and Logan combined well as well when their surging runs were often not tracked. Logan managed to finish one goal clinically.

The goal of the match would go to Alex. A direct free-kick by Norris which everyone thought he would shoot directly. He tapped the ball to Alex which he volleyed 20-yards away to the top corner. Unstoppable!

CBS Marine brought one back before the break, crappy goal which I cannot remember.

The second half started with CBS Marine more composed, it was an Aylwin show. He ks one ball pouched away by Gary which landed in an open goal. He did it again with a corner open header, bringing the scoreline 4 -3. There seems no panic in Maestro, the calming effect came when Norris replied them with a header from corner. No nonsense from Norris!

Gifford had a few shots as well. A thunderous 30 yards left leg shot which a fully stretched keeper could not stop it from finding the net.

I guessed the game today would prepare the match on Wednesday with Chris’s friends team. 9pm at Tampines Safra. The team had lost to Aldergate 6 – 1, and the standards would probably matched to Maestro. According to them, they are pretty weak from headers. 4 goals conceded by headers. Hope Maestro would play their best against this team, so Chris would not be “Malu” for his gathering.

Good Points

·
Domination in possession, technical ability, and superb passion by the players.
·
Ball to feet passing proved to be decisive. Look at the first half performance.
·
Aylwin had a good game despite being opposition.
·
Finishing is clinical, especially Alex free kick.
·
Man of the Match: Contenders – Logan, Augustine, Alex. Pick your choice. Everyone had a superb game.

Bad Points

·
Long ball is exhausting. Luckily its CBS Marine. Enough said.
·
Dawn required a tan (Facebook comment), she got it. We got the heat exhaustion issue.
·
Where is Gary’s cleansheet? I recon him the best goalkeeper in the league.
·
Hows Alan’s injury?
