7/3/2010 MFC Vs Black Knights Match Review

Match Review by Gerald Tan
Final Score: Black Knights 3 : 4 MFC (Guo Xian 2, Augustine 2)

Black Knights gave MFC a scare by almost securing an upset over MFC for the first time. Though this match was a friendly, there was alot at stake, with MFC looking to protedct their unbeaten record against Black Knights, while the Black Knights were looking to knock MFC off the pedestal and claim a morale boosting win.

MFC had a full team of 19 today; as compared to Black Knights who were short on players. Norris' 3 friends and Chris's friend joined Black Knights in the first half to make up the numbers. Though facing a patched up Black Knights, MFC got off to a bad start when one of Norris' friends, Lee, chased down a long ball and beat goalkeeper Chris Lau for the first goal of the game, from Black Knights' first attack!

MFC was shellshocked but soon regained composure to score an equalizer. A good one two passing between Augustine and Gerald saw Augustine break free from the defence and though the goalkeeper was quick off his line to intercept, Augustine chested the ball beyond the keeper and put the ball into the open goal. MFC continued to push forward with Abi being a live wire upfront alone. However, the stage was set for Guo Xian who came on as a substitute to score the 2nd goal for MFC. A free kick was awarded to MFC just outside the penalty box and Guo Xian's freekick took a wicked bounce in front of the goalkeeper, leaving him stranded as the ball bounced into the empty net. A stroke of luck one might say but it was a good freekick nonetheless.

The first half ended 2-1 to MFC but the Black Knights were not out yet. MFC keeper Chris Lau's goalkeeping blunders almost granted the Black Knights a way back but luckily it did not happen.

The second half however saw the Black Knights returning just as determined to seek the equalizer. MFC however had other plans, scoring again via Augustine to make the score 3-1. MFC was not out of the woods yet when the Black Knights scored 2 more goals to even out the scores at 3-3. Suffian, Norris' friend, was the main tormentor of MFC's defence as his quick touches and speed posed a problem for MFC to defend against.

With the clock winding down, both teams seeked the winning goal. MFC were lucky to escape a few nervy moments. The same can be said too for Black Knights as Guo Xian and Augustine missed glorious chances to put MFC ahead. But MFC had the final say in the end as Guo Xian scored the winning goal by capitalising on a goalkeeping error to score his second of the game.

4-3 it ended to MFC's favour but it was a little too close for comfort especially since the Black Knights were not even in full strength. MFC will need to up it's game for the next league match coming up.

High Points
1) Good performance by Abi as his speed down the flanks worked to his advantage many times.
2) Good play by Suffian who impressed with his fast running, flair and skill. He would be a good addition to MFC's front line.
3) MFC played well in periods of the game with some good passing.

Low Points
1) Some MFC players did not inform of their attendance, making planning harder for Walter.
2) Chris Lau's goalkeeping was a nail biting experience whenever he was called into action
3) MFC's players need to have better positioning awareness- some parts of the field were overcrowded by players and some were empty for the opponents to exploit.
