Final Score: Slack Jacks 2 : 3 MFC (Guo Xian 1, Hakim 2)
MFC got back onto the right path for their quest to top the Division 3 league by claiming all 3 points over the weekend courtesy of goals from Hakim and Guoxian. The starting lineup for the game was less than 10 initially and MFC had to resort to get their friends to come play against a familiar team, Slack Jack. The scoreline for the last meeting between both sides was 2-1 which saw MFC emerging on top of it.
The game started off late but spirits were high as MFC capitalize on the 4-5-1 formation right from the start. Silas played the destroyer role up front, causing panic among the opponent’s defence. Elsewhere, Norris, WeeHian, Guoxian and Walter held the back line, with Augustine, Hanrong, Chris Tan, Hakim and Afiq battling out in midfield.
It took MFC about 15mins to draw first blood with Hakim scoring his debut goal for MFC in style. He received a long ball from Norris before controlling it and scoring from more than 50metres out. The keeper had no chance and that spurred MFC to pressurize them further. Within minutes, MFC scored again through a good pass from Afiq to Hakim as he scored his 2nd goal for the day. This time round Hakim also took his shot confidently from some distance and then celebrated his goal with much delight.
The result made it difficult for Slack Jack to chase the game as MFC were maintaining possession in midfield. However, a quick through ball caught MFC defence by surprise during the 40min while Walter and Weehian were judged to have miss time their tackle on the Slack Jack forward. The referee made the decision to award them penalty with their striker scoring a goal from the penalty spot. Calvin looked dejected after conceding the goal but the MFC spirits were still high.
The quest for the 3rd goal came near the stroke of halftime when Afiq aka “A.Valencia” tormented the opponent’s defence and was brought down in the penalty box. Guoxian stepped up and delivered his penalty and took MFC sky high as they headed into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
The 2nd half kicked off promptly and Slack Jack was anxiously looking to make up for their 2 goals deficit asap. They launched numerous attacks but most of their shot were off target, leaving Calvin with nothing much to do. The departure of Weehian and Jason early in the 2nd half of the game created a shift in MFC momentum.
MFC were back paddling most of the time as the defence looked tired and shaky due to their absence. Silas was then deployed back as Left back and Abi led upfront in attack. Some credits had to go to Abi who created several chances alone upfront and had to battle out with their defenders who were much bigger physically. The referee waved on and allowed game play on several occasions despite poor and late challenges on Abi.
About 5 minutes from time, Slack Jack pulled another goal through a penalty. This time round, he cautioned Afiq who was seen to have “pushed” the opponent in the penalty box during the corner kick. The penalty was nearly saved by Cross who had guessed the right position. Slack Jack then almost drew level if not for Cross’ brilliant save from the freekick and Guoxian goal line clearance.
Come on you Bees……………….

2) Good play from the 3 new players, Hakim, Afiq and Abi

3) Opponent Striker’s lack of self control when he kicked Hanrong on his shin for no reason
