Final Score: Obese Chap FC 4 : 1 MFC (Guo Xian 1)
After a week’s festive break, MFC returned to competitive league action against Obese Chap FC. This week’s opponents were new to MFC and most of the team had not seen them play. MFC were also looking to keep the winning run going in the league.
A total of 15 players were available for the match. The match started much later than usual as Obese Chap were late for the stipulated kick off time. MFC started the match in their usual 4-5-1 formation.
The match started off in a cautious manner as both teams had not faced each other before. As time passed, MFC started to take control of the match with much ball possession but hardly any strikes on goal. MFC had two great chances to take the lead but were deny buy two excellent saves by the opponent’s goal keeper. Alex and Guo Xian took two wonderfully struck free kicks each and on another day would have surely beaten the keeper.
Obese Chap FC took the lead against the run of play with a powerfully struck free kick of their own. Down but not out, MFC pressed on for the equalizer and finally got it just before half-time. Norris got into the opponent’s box and was brought down by a challenge by a defender. The referee pointed to the penalty spot without any hesitation. Regular penalty taker Guo Xian stepped up and converted it with his usual composure to bring the sides level at 1-1.
That was the last action of the first half as the referee soon blew for half-time. MFCians went into the break knowing that the game was there for the taking.
The second half started with both sides looking to take the lead. Both sides were cancelling out each other. Calvin made a great run, dribbling past the various Obese Chap players but failing to test the opposition goal keeper. Midway through the second half, Obese Chap scored two goals from defensive mistakes not usually associated with MFC. After conceding the two goals, MFCians were left deflated and tried as they might, failed to create any clear cut chances.
Alex had put in many dangerous crosses but nobody managed to test the opponent’s goal keeper. That was as good as it got for MFC. Obese Chap finally put the match to bed with their fourth goal after yet another defensive error. Soon after, an Obese Chap player was shown a straight red after a dangerous tackle on keeper Cross. Soon after, the referee brought the game to the end.
For MFC, this was a disappointing match with many defensive errors. As one player put it, it was like a comedy of errors.
