MFC 2 :
0 TBC FC (Guoxian, Jeremy)
Match Review by Gary:
This week’s match was
between MFC and TBC FC, held at naval base secondary school with a strength of
14 MFC players. Despite being a friendly game against an aged opponent team,
MFC was motivated to get nothing less than a win. The weather was certainly not
the usual warm and humid weather that MFC was accustomed to playing, as it was
raining throughout the entire match. Several MFC players were joking, saying
that the rain was the result of Gary Hart’s return to the team. Captain Walter
adopted a 4-5-1 formation, with August and Joel running the flanks, Wee hian
and Chris as centre back and Brian in front of goal.
Maestro started the
game more brightly, stringing a host of passes comfortably and having the
majority share of the possession. For the first 20 minutes, MFC piled immense
pressure on the opponents’ defence, with Augustine and Joel tormenting the
opponent’s fullbacks. TBC’s goalkeeper was certainly comical as he handled the
ball on purpose while clearing a loose ball and pushed one of MFC’s players
down during a corner. It could have been a sending off, if not for the leniency
of the referee. MFC was certainly frustrated as the scoreline remain 0-0 , with
the lack of creativity in the final third but this frustration was not too long
when a counter attack found Jeremy. He sped past TBC’s rightback before making
a nice-weighted pass to Guoxian, who slot it coolly past the goalkeeper. 1-0
the score and Guoxian showcased his “Gangnam Style” celebration to the team. Brian was certainly the less
busier of both keepers as TBC did not really threaten the MFC’s goal, but still
make a good punch from a resulting corner. Apart from the only goal, there are
few chances on both sides.
Second half began with
a change of MFC’s keepers, with Calvin in goal and Jeremy up front. MFC did not
hold back despite having the lead, as our attackers continue to pile pressure
on the opponents. MFC’s effort certainly paid off amidst a slight confusion by
the TBC’s defenders. Guoxian somehow managed to find Jeremy who finished it
comfortably past the goalkeeper. 2-0 the score! The lack of fitness of the
opponents was clearly evident as MFC players managed to take advantage of some
sloppy touches from the opponents, and convert them to several good chances.
MFC continued to have the lion share of the possession, quite simply evident
from the fact that Calvin did not need to make a single save. MFC’s defence was
top class, with the superb aerial heading ability of Chris and some calm and
smart defending by Weehian ,Alywin and Walter.
Not long after, the
referee blew the final whistle. It was certainly an enjoyable game for the
players and a nice preparation before the start of X-league game next week.
Lets’ hope that MFC can finished champion for this coming X-league season.
