Maestro back to winning ways before league games

Chinese Katong Team 0 : 4 Maestro FC (Thomas, Abhi, GX, Kartik)

Match review by Abhishek and Jonathan.

Maestro had a strong team and perfect weather was on our side as we kicked off the afternoon game against a Chinese team we were quite familiar with as they had played at Katong before.

Maestro started the game very fluently, passing the ball around and creating half chances but the final ball was still lacking. It was difficult to pick out the lone striker many a time. After much perseverance bald Thomas finally broke the dead lock with a wonderful chip/ shot from outside the box. It went perfectly over the keeper and landed at the back of the net, 1-0 to maestro. Soon after Abhi made it 2-0 as he slotted a free rolling ball at the back of the net beating the keeper by a fraction.

Maestro played very well in the first half, the defence was solid, the link up play from defence to attack was impeccable and we could have been leading by a larger margin as we were running over our opponents with ease. Norris and Chris played very well to sniff out any attack that came that way. This allowed Walter and Hakim and Eric to attack more. Maestro’s relentless attacking paid off near the end of the first half as Kartik won a penalty after a clever run. Guo Xian made no mistake as he made it 3-0 to MFC.  At the end of the first half maestro were in high spirits leading 3-0.

The 2nd half began with MFC not looking to ease up the pressure and was looking to extending their lead.  Within minutes, the team got their 4th goal after a good run by Kartik accumulated with a low drive that went under the opposition’s goalkeeper. Walter also had a great chance to score after receiving a ball in the box but could not get the goal he craved.

MFC continued to create more chances but were unable to make it 5. The final whistle blew a little early than some had expected but that was probably how much MFC was enjoying the match. The X-league resumes next week with MFC looking to continue their good play and hopefully finish near or at the top of the table at the end of the season.

Good points:
  • Great play by the whole team, 4 different goalscorers!
  • Good win to take into the upcoming X-league match
  • Clean sheet
  • Good pitch and referee

Improvement points:
  • Centre midfielders tend to drift to the wings and leave the centre empty
