27/5/2012 Maestro FC Vs SGX Match Review

Maestro FC 7 : 1 SGX (Thomas x2, Alan, Joel x2, Eugene, Jeramy)
Match Review by Joel Lau

As there was no league match over the weekend, Maestro FC decided to have a friendly match against SGX which also gave Maestro a break from the league competition. Maestro recorded another big win by scoring another 7 goals in total.

It was a late sunday afternoon match against SGX and Maestro Abhishek Bala had his first game after some time. Alvin was also back into action with him missing out on the last 2 matches. In the goal line was Yang De (Eugene and Joel’s friend) for his debut for Maestro FC. With everyone in high spirits and looking forward for the team 3rd consecutive win, it was Maestro FC who started the game for the first half.

It was Maestro who took the upper gear and tried to break down SGX defence. The well disciplined defence from SGX gave Maestro some frustrations as they manage to catch Maestro strikers and midfielders offside. Maestro line of defence was also great and manage to make Yang De’s job pretty easy.

The first game came however with a bit of luck. It came from a throw in from the left flank, Thomas manage to get the ball in his feet and gave a back flick into the danger area. The ball managed to go pass everyone and SGX keeper was caught stranded as the ball lobbed into the net. The first half ended at 1-0 with Maestro determined to get the second goal knowing that SGX was one man short.

Maestro started the 2nd half with a few changes made by Captain Walter during half time. With Maestro's defence doing well keeping the ball out of danger and the attacking forces trying to get the 2nd goal, Maestro managed to win a free kick outside the box. Gerald gave Joel the opportunity to take it and Joel managed to send the ball into the back of the net. This made up for Joel’s 1 on 1 miss earlier.

With confidence growing, Maestro was looking for the 3rd. And it came courtesy from Alan who was first to the ball and connecting well to place the ball into the net. The corner was taken nicely from Abhishek Bala. It was his first game after so long and Abhishek Bala did well in his duty as a left winger. Eugene and Gerald also played important roles in dominating the midfield from time to time and spreading the ball around.

Eugene's effort in midfield was finally rewarded with a goal as he ran into the penalty box and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper’s left. SGX FC realized that their offside trap were starting to fail on them and decided to change their tactics. They managed to win a few corners and also gave Maestro defence a taste of their attacking force. However, Maestro's defence was also up to the test and managed to keep them at bay.

It was not long before the 5th goal came, this time Thomas getting his name on the score sheet once again. Thomas also showed composure up front with a few good touches and decisive passing giving few problems for SGX's defence.

The 6th goal came from the left flank. This time Joel managed to get the ball into the net courtesy from Jeramy’s assist. The 7th goal came from Jeramy as he tapped the ball into the empty neat. Jeramy could have added more goals to his name but it was the cross bar that denied him. With 7 goals scored, Maestro continued to play well and Gerald had a long range shot that deflected in the penalty box and the final ball was called offside. With 10 men, SGX played well and showed good sportsmanship. With their determination, they managed to win a free kick and this resulted in a goal for SGX. Their left back gave a thunderous shot into the top corner which was almost impossible to save.

The game ended with Maestro FC bagging seven goals and a wonderful shot for SGX player.

High Points

1) Two consecutive 7 goals from last week’s X League game and today against SGX

2) Good defensive display from Wee Hian and Alan partnership with Alan missing out last two games

3) Chris' good performance as defender this time round and Walter doing well in right back

4) Eugene and Joel managed to score their first goals for Maestro FC

5) Gerald and Eugene once again dominating the midfield

Low Points
1) Referee was late
2) The goal conceded could have been avoided. A pretty soft goal to concede
3) Could have been more goals for the Bees if Jeramy manage to convert a few more.
4) Too many offside penalised. Was one of the highest offside for the Bees according to Gerald. Team might need to look into this
