13/6/2010 MFC Vs CMC FC Match Review

Match Review by Chris Tan
Final Score: MFC 1 : 2 CMC FC (Hakim 1)

Chris Tan's indiscipline handball gifted CMC a penalty in the last 5 minutes of the game, as Maestro fell 2-1 in the friendly at Bukit Timah field. Despite the setback, Maestro have a dominating game with sparkling performance by Cross and Maestro Defence and Midfield having 70% of the possession.

The first opportunity of the game should have resulted in the game's opening goal. Alex's free kick got block by the wall and the ball rolled towards Chris Tan, which his shot went high. CMC survived that spell though, and Jonathan was handed the chance to take the game when the corner was left uncleared in the penalty box, he fired over as well. CMC has several few close chances with their fast-pace attacks, but their threats were all diffused by Maestro's ever-speedy defence easily.

However, despite the best intention of both sides, neither goalkeeper was seriously threatened in the first half.

The breakthrough came on the 45th minutes, a well-earned free-kick by the flank allow Alex to drift the ball into the box. Hakim was first to react with his splendid header to bring the ball at the back of the net. CMC was left dejected on the break. During the half-time break, Walter hopes more supporting attacks to be given priority to the left flank.

The second half started with light rain and thunderstrikes across the field. Maestro started with fluent passes and domination midfield earning every ball across the field. The first chance after the half came to Chris Tan on a counter-attack as he dribbled down from the left flank to shooting opportunity, but his shot went up high.

A stroke of luck came when CMC was awarded a corner, and a inward swinging ball meet a well taken header that scroll pass everyone in disbelief. The header was not particularly venomous if not for Maestro's poor marking, and this is similar to any typical cases of Maestro incapability of handling set-pieces.

On this evidence it would seem unlikely either teams will walk out with a win. However, on the 85th minute, Maestro's chances of victory diminished considerably when Chris Tan desperate attempt to head the ball out of a corner seems to have overstretched his hands and handled the ball, a notch from the opponent could be a cause for him to jump with an unbalanced position. The penalty was converted. CMC was finally smiling again, despite not playing good football throughout the match. Chris Tan was apologetic and sympathized by fellow team members.

The goal came in too late for Maestro. Maestro was unable to push forward to score an equalizer. The disbelief Alex was not impressed, as he left the pitch depressed.

1) Chris Tan in the headlines for the wrong reasons. ~ "Really Sorry Guys…" Chris Tan
2) Stroke of luck win for CMC.
3) Lack of Flair and creativity to break through the CMC's defence.
