25/4/2010 MFC Vs Todak FC Match Review

Match Review by Chris Tan
Final Score: MFC 7 : 2 Todak FC (Han 3, Sofian 2, Gifford 1, Abi 1)

Maestro FC sent a defiant message to all Sunsports football clubs as Maestro FC moved up to 2nd position with a stunning demolition of Todak FC at Katong pitch.

The turnout for the match was good with 16 players at Captain Walter's disposal. MFC started the match with deficiency in central defence, thus Guo Xian selflessly moved to support the back line. While the rest of positions were held by the regulars.

Todak were expected to put up some stiff resistance but Maestro’s mood from kick-off dictated otherwise. A weak back-pass from the Todak’s left-back to the keeper was picked up by Gifford who ambushed successfully. He dribbled past the goalkeeper and put the ball at the back of the net with his weaker foot. The first goal was made possible by good pressure by Calvin.

Todak was demoralised by the early goal, their emotions were further strained when Sofian finished off with a self-proclaimed Torres-clinical-style. He worked hard to win a bouncing ball, which he shook off the defenders and finished off the goalkeeper easily. Maestro was cruising with a 2 – 0 lead.

Maestro, so often criticised for failing to secure a victory despite starting well, fell deep into the trap again. Simple mistakes by Maestro defence leaked 2 easy goals to Todak. Clear observation showed the tiredness of long-lasting players on the pitch, and the lost of concentration might be the reason for the poor goals conceded. The first half ended with 2 – 2, with both sides looking to push for the win in the 2nd half.

The 2nd half began with fortune favoured Maestro FC. Abi managed to steal a ball from the right-back and speed down the flank facing one-on-one situation with the keeper. He kept his composure and blast the ball into the net. The difficult job, made easy with his fast pace and trickery .

The movement of Maestro FC looked livelier after the break, noticeably the brother of Sufian, Han who patiently watched the style of play of Todak FC during the first half. He made many critical analyses on the Todak defence; the left-back of Todak FC who was slower and technically weaker than other players. He managed to exploit their weakness effectively, with many balls pumping to the right-hand side of the field and running down the flank. All it took was only few minutes to make an impact on the pitch; Han scored a spectacular goal to put Maestro ahead.

Todak managed to put one back shortly after. However, the match was followed with Maestro one-way traffic, Han added another one few minutes later, a powerful low-shot from the tight angle of right-hand side put the lead to 5 – 3. Todak was demoralised, they tried to savage the situation by pushing the defence forward, which proved to be disastrous. Sofian and Han added 2 easy goals to end the match in frantic style.

High Points
1) Han almost single-handedly demolished Todak FC. Superb combination of skills and speed.
2) Forward pressing play in the 2nd half, good teamwork seen
3) The new players had definitely proved their capabilities

Low Points
1) Hot and humid weather making the game tiring
2) Lack of self-less substitution to be seen in the team despite tireness from players
3) 3 goals conceded were purely Maestro misfortune of mistakes
