Final Score: Black Knights 0 : 7 MFC (Chris Tan 3, Guo Xian 2, Augustine 1, Alex 1)
For the 2nd week, MFC's league opponents failed to turn up, resulting in a walkover for them. In place of the opponents were the Black Knights, a team which MFC played just a month ago. They will be looking for a better performance from the last encounter where MFC emerged winners with a 3-1 score.
The team available for selection was strong. Winger Zeng Yi, keeper Cross and defender Howard made returns to the game. A total of about 16-17 players turned up and they were all not left disappointed.
The match started in a 4-5-1 formation and MFC started off the blocks well. There were 2 early chances that went begging for MFC but it was not long before the first goal arrived via a long range freekick from Alex. His freekick curled and lobbed past the goalkeeper for the first goal. Soon after, the second goal arrived. It was a replica of the first goal, this time, Guo Xian was the scorer. His freekick went into the top right of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.
MFC continued to press on and forced the Black Knights to defend frequently. Winger Zeng Yi was back to his pacy best, outrunning several defenders and was a constant threat whenever he got the ball. Guo Xian too was very much involved. He helped create the third goal for Chris Tan, cutting in from the left flank before releasing a low cross to Chris who made amends for last week's misses with a well taken goal. Chris would go onto score 2 more in the first half to complete his hat-trick.
The Black Knights had their chances too, the most obvious was a penalty awarded to them. The situation surrounding the penalty was no less chaotic, with several Black Knights players confronting Vice Captain Walter for an alleged foul on their player. Gerald and Cross, both subs at that time, became involved in a scruffle with a few Black Knights players who started the scruffle with their pushing and shoving. Referee Li was forced to give the players involved straight red cards. The penalty decision stood and Keeper Calvin did well to parry the penalty attempt and left the Black Knights wondering how they are going to get on the scoresheet. With the score at 5-0, half time could not come any sooner for the Black Knights.
The scruffle created a few nerves here and there but MFC was not relenting; the second half started with MFC pushing forward to get more goals. The Black Knights improved in the second half with more influential gameplay from their centre midfield. They had a few chances as well but due to good goalkeeping and poor finishing, they could not convert the chances. The MFC defence also performed well, with Firdaus, Walter, Brian, Kartik, Norris and Howard denying the attacks from Black Knights.
It was more goals galore for MFC, they scored 2 more, this time from Augustine. For a third straight match, Augustine found himself on the scoresheet with a well taken chip over the oncoming goalkeeper to make it 6-0. Zeng Yi, whose pace troubled the tired Black Knights, outran 4 defnders and delivered a cross which Guo Xian latched on and bundled the ball past the goalkeeper for the last goal. The final whistle was blown and it ended 7-0 to MFC.
It was an overall good performance, with a good turnout today. Lets hope MFC gets to play James Cook next week, to avenge a 7-0 defeat a few months back!
