19/7/2009 Testimonial Match for Alan Chiang

Match Review by Walter Tan
Final Score: MFC Friends 3 : 6 MFC (Howard 3, Chris Tan 1, Alan 1, Norris 1)

The match began with a lot of familiar faces and there was a lot of chats going on and pictures taken due to the fact that we haven’t met some our Ex players for a very long time. MFC invited the fellow Ex-CCHB members like, Tee Wee (our very own Ex MFC “let go” striker), Hock Jin (former perfect and Alan’s classmate), Boon Siong (Ex MFC), Ciku (Mountbatten Regular) , Terrence (Lil Eric Geylang Utd fan and friend) back for this very special game. It was great seeing them all back for the very 1st time since we left our first home ground, at the Mountbatten field.

The first half began with MFC in their away gold jerseys while the MFC Friends were in their blue jerseys.
Alan took over the captain’s role from Big Eric and lead MFC into attack against the MFC Friends team. Alan took the role of striker along with Howard supporting him at the back.

The game started with a much more relaxed attitude as compared to our usual Sunday league games. MFC drew first blood through a brilliant effort from Chris Tan. He received a ball from Howard and then shot from distance with much confidence resulting in a 1-0 lead for MFC. The opponents came back strongly through a “loaned” China striker due to some miscommunication between the MFC defenders and goalkeeper. He did it easily with no one to beat, except the goal posts. The same thing happened again within a short span of 5-10mins which allowed the opponents doubled their lead to 3-1 to put MFC players and tactics into some serious doubts. At the half time whistle, the score line was 3-2 for the visitors with Alan scoring the 2nd goal for MFC just 5mins away from half time.

In the 2nd half, things changed for the better for MFC. Alan and his cousin, Guo Xian joined the MFC Friends Team with the intent to partner up for the very first time this season as strikers with the aim to destroy MFC further. That change saw Norris moving back from the MFC Friends Team’s goalkeeper to MFC striker.

Moments after the next half kicked off, Norris made it 3-3 after with a good through ball provided by the MFC midfielders. Jason and Hanrong then distributed a few more long balls to Howard who managed to do well by slotting a hat-trick (his first ever) back for MFC.
The rest of the 2nd half, MFCians dominated the game and tormented the opponent’s defence with Big Eric, Firdaus, Calvin etc all taking long range shots, hoping to bag in a goal each for themselves.

The final score line was 6-3 in favor for MFC. The game ended with Alan shaking hands with all the players standing in a row. This symbolizes our gratitude and respect to him as a fellow MFCian. We all hope to see him join us soon when he returns for his holidays sometime in December 2009.

Lastly, we want to wish Alan a happy and blessed time there, and don’t forget our shopping list and presents (havaianas slippers etc). Ciao……We will miss ya!
