MFC learnt lessons

VS old boys 5 : 1 MFC (Guo Xian)
Match review by Alan Chiang

Thundery showers interrupted most parts of the game against Victoria School old boys on Sunday afternoon. The first half of the game came to a halt just after 26 minutes, as the referee felt that lightning was within the vicinity. The opponent was leading 1-0 then.

The spirits within the camp were all good before the game restarted. The referee mentioned that the game would proceed till 45 minutes of the first half, with no break in-between before both teams changed side. Maestro was already down 0-3 before the change.

The opponent extended the lead mid-way through the second half and put the game beyond Maestro's reach. Guo Xian, however, capitalised on a defensive mix-up and latched on to Alan's through-ball, and lobbed pass the goalkeeper to nick in a consolation goal.

As Maestro pushed on for more goals, the backline was also exposed for the opponent's striker to add another goal. 5-1 was the final scoreline, but Maestro felt the there were many turning points in the game and it would have been a balanced scoreline against the opponent.

Maestro did enjoy a fair share of possession and attacking opportunities, but it was not easy throughout the game for Maestro given the rain kept pouring on the field. There were certainly many lessons to be learnt out of this game.

Good points:
- Turnout was healthy, at least everyone got the chance to play.
- Some good promising attacking moves, just lack the finishing.
- Thanks Brian for organising the game.

Bad points:
- Rain, lightning, affected the momentum. Soaking boots, jerseys.
- Need to improve on first touches, making quick decisions, physically stronger.
- Referee seems to make weird calls.
