Match review by Big Eric
6 November 2011 mild sunny afternoon, just a week before the X-League season starts,
where Maestro’s unbeaten Streak stretches to EIGHT with a 3 nil win over TTB (NSF team)over at Bukit Timah .Although the playing condition of the field could not match what we had at Springfield last week; turf field, but it did not stopped the BEEs from stinging our opposition.
18 Players for the match, more than enough players for every position. Maestro’s Vice
Captain Gerald started off with a 4-5-1 formation. With Randahl in goal, starting centre backs Chris Tan and Big Eric, with Small Eric securing the left defends line and Howard on the right. Up above the Centre backs, were Paul and Gerald playing a Defensive Midfielder role supporting the defends with Rong An having the attacking Mid Position. Augustine and Alywin flanking the left and right flank respectively and with Jason storming the front. Gerald set two objectives for the team, nothing but a win and exploiting our match play down both flanks.
Whistle blown, game on! BEEs getting in tempo (Maestro’s Core value) within minutes into the first half, getting more and more comfortable with pace of the game and dominating the Opposition. Attackers kept launching shots, testing the Opposition keeper. From passes between the midfielders and the defenders to launching runs down the flanks, those hard runs and determination finally paid off as Augustine scored BEEs’ Goal number 1. Maestro kept substituting it wingers, pressuring the opponents, leaving them no way out. We kept the opponent’s attacking chances to the minimum and counter attacks by Maestros were lost of counts. Just before half time, TTB’s defender committed a foul just outside the box and a free kick was awarded by the referee. One of our free kick specialist, Rong An took it and the true specialist finds the back of the net! Goal number 2!!! And the keeper conceded his second.
Half time talk, Gerald warned Maestro that we should not be complacent and slack off. We should maintain what we had during the first half and searching for more goals. Second half started off with 4-5-1. Small Eric left back, Logen right back, and the centre backs Chris Tan and Norris. Gerald, Paul and Hakim (Selemat Hari Raya Haji!) took centre mid. Left mid Augustine and on the right Alywin and jeff upfront.
TTB changed some of its attacking tactics and shaken up Maestro alittle, but that did not last for long and Maestro took control soon after. Maestro’s Midfielders did better and kept feeding the forwards with lots of opportunity and Alywin managed to sealed the Win for Maestro with less than 25 minutes of playing time. A right footer from him, which curled over the defenders and keeper, find the almost top right hand corner of the goalpost! Good Goal! 3- Nil. When Abhi and Kartik was substituted with Augustine and Alywin, and Big Eric came in for Chris Tan, Vice-Captain Gerald commanded the formation to changed to a 3-4-3, attacking formation. This drew more corners for the BEEs, and it seems like a fanfare, players lining up and taking their chances, hoping to score more! And the full-time whistle goes! Good win for Maestro! An eight matches unbeaten streak!
Good Points:
- Maestro displayed one of its Core Value- Tempo; getting fast on track into the game.
- Maestro able to switch from a 4-5-1 formation to 3-4-3 formation without any lapses, and able keep the opponents at the bay.
- Referee was fair enough and did not flash any cards.
- Maestro’s Substitutes was cheering away for the match playing players.
- Great turn out by Maestrocians for the match. 18 players
- Clean Sheet! + 3 goals!
Bad Points:
- The playing condition of the field was not a favour.
- No proper washing and changing point.
- Passing and control in Maestro seems to deteriate much due to the bad pitch.
