MFC got “owned” during our weekly Sunday soccer friendly against an unfamiliar team that consists of China players. As what Capt GX had said in the post match comments, he felt that MFC had taken the game too lightly and had underestimated our opponents.
The game kicked off with MFC taking the lead through a brilliant free kick, courtesy of Rong An Di Santos. He took it confidently, beating the wall of defense to curl the ball in to make it 1-0 to MFC. MFCians continue to pressure the opponents with Jeff, Paul, RongAn and others saw their chances went begging. Seeing how frail MFC was in the attacking options, the opponents then took the offensive approach and kept on launching in balls through the centre. Their passing possession in midfield was far more superior to MFC and we seemed to have problems silencing their player maker “Messy” during the game. He alone managed to take on a couple of us and it took him not too long to respond to their one goal deficit. Messy dribbled and did a through pass for their striker to make it 1-1 before halftime.
The second half saw a couple of chances in the lineup, with Randall and Gary swapping positions. Gary played RB for the first time and was excited about not using his hands to pick kick ball. He and Alywin were tormented down the right flank by the in-flood of the Chinese players. Soon after, MFC experienced the loss of ball possession in most parts of the field and the Chinese team took the game to a 4-1 lead for them. Each goal they scored seemed to be a World Cup Final goal. Their celebrations and hand gestures seems to suggest so. haha.
MFC had a shout out for 2 penalties in the late 2nd half of the game, but was clearly rejected by our beloved China Referee-GuanYu. He understood that the opponent’s hand ball foul was unintentional and their GK foul on Capt GX in the penalty box a clean dance move from the GK.
Jeffery Gerrard did well enough 5mins from time to pull one goal back for us as he followed up the GK’s punch out effort and placed the ball in neatly into the bottom left hand corner of the net. That goal did boost up MFC’s morale as we searched for another goal. Our 3rd goal never came and things got worse for us when they slotted in their fifth goal of the game through a neat one two play. The day ended leaving most MFCians dejected but we will definitely be looking to pick ourselves up for the next game.
Com’on You BEES! We need to start winning AGAIN!
Lesson learnt:
Never underestimate the opponents.
More ball possessions please especially in midfield. Where have all the confidence went to?[“.]
Garrett and Jeffery’s display during the game resulted in positive feedback.
Men of the Match: Jon and Chris01 for silencing Messy and his team. Great tracking back and defending.
