Final Score: MFC Red (Zirong) 1 - 1 MFC Blue (Eric Ng)
As Maestro players strolled in to the Katong field, one cannot help but to start the conversation on the upcoming captain election. Reporting office Yam Ah Mee (Abi) had refused to comment further on their chances, stating that all candidates have the rights to fair competition.
Teams’ line-up:
BLUES: Gary, Alan, Eric, Howard, Walter, Guo Xian, Rong An, Augustine, Gerald, Paul, Gifford
REDS: Randahl, Chris, Alex, Norris, Kartik, Logen, Calvin, Jeffery, Jarred, Zi Rong, Wee Hian, Lil Eric, Alwyn, Abi
The BLUES began the friendly match with a series of chances that went begging. Several players found the woodwork and with the impressive Randahl at goal, the BLUES had a hard time to find that net. Within the final minutes of the first half, Guo Xian opted for a short corner to Rong An. He broke free to the byline and cracked a shot towards the goal. Randahl managed to keep it out but only for Eric to capitalize on the loose ball. One goal up for the BLUES. The BLUES could have got a couple more goals ahead if not for Randahl’s heroic saves.
The REDS had better chances during the second half. Yam Ah Mee (Abi) combined well with Kartik and Logan down the right side of the field. Together with Alex, Norris and Chris pressurizing on all fronts, the REDS soon found a goal. But it was Zi Rong who got to the end of Abi’s cross from the right flank. Gary said, “It was the most disgusting goal I have seen from Brian. He was using his stomach.” It was a well-deserved goal from the REDS as they have been pushing forward and adapting more attacking plays.
One goal apiece for both sides as the time ran down. It was a fair competition on the pitch so far. How about the upcoming election? Nobody knows. But one thing is for sure. Maestro’s spirit will soar.
There was a side show after the game: Penalty kick. The REDS won the shoot-out 3-1.
Highs:
- Good turnout
- Great fitness test for all players
- Eric getting his first goal after his comeback
- Finally have 4 soccer balls on the pitch
- Goals from defenders, they don’t just defend!
Lows:
- Too many offsides for the BLUES, need to be more disciplined
- HOT SUN. But second half was much better.
