This week’s football match is a game played between MFC Gold Team and MFC Red Team. Despite the waterlogged field caused by the heavy downpour in the afternoon, there was a good turn up of MFC players for the game. Captain Guoxian (Referee for the game) organized MFC into 2 teams and let the individual captain of each team decides the lineup. Let’s not forget this is also a game to welcome back our versatile Calvin who was badly injured in a football match at Katong some time ago.

Although this was a friendly game where MFC players get the chance to play against each other, It was not that friendly on the pitch as players from both teams are 100% committed, throwing in ferocious challenges and tugging of shirts.

The game started with MFC Red team gaining the majority share of the possession, spraying beautiful passes across the field and dictating the game but not really threatening keeper Randahl. However, despite being pinned back for the majority of the game till this point, it was the Gold team who got the first goal. A counter attack by the Gold team found Abi on the right flank as he rushed past Howard and delivered a beautiful cross, which in turn was headed in by Calvin past keeper Gary. What a way to celebrate the return of Calvin as he recorded his name on the score sheet.

Calvin’s goal seemed to be awake up call for the Red Team to be more clinical in front of goal. Shortly after that, Red team equalized, courtesy of a good build up play, which was converted by young striker Jeffrey. 1-1 the score! If you expect this to be a low scoring game, you are wrong. MFC Red team managed to take advantage of some sloppy defending by the gold team and it was not long before Norris scored for the Red team. A good pass by Alex somehow find Norris with a one on one chance with keeper Randahl as he slot it with great composure past Randal. Some Gold team players called for offside but the referee was firm in his decision to award the goal as Eric has played Norris onside.

The third goal was imminent, again due to some sloppy as a lopping pass found Norris. His first touch was brilliant and the finish equally outstanding. Gold team did rally in search of a goal to reduce the deficit. A pass found Logen who faked pass a few Red team’s defenders before finding himself in a 1 on 1 position with Gary and he unleashed a venom shot, only to be blocked by a superbly timed tackle by Howard. It was a superb block, one that Chelsea’s left back Ashley Cole will be proud of. Simply Stunning as Howard reminded the rest of the team why he should be the No 1 Left back for MFC. 3-1 to Red team and it was not long before the referee blew the whistle to signal the end of the first half.

The second half began with Gold team putting immense pressure on the Red team’s as they tried to get back into the game. There are couple of instances where Abi managed to get the better of Red team’s defence, having half chances against Gary but the Gold team’s keeper managed to retain the scoreline. Gold team was playing a very high line as they tried to search for another goal and this backfired. A counter attack by the red team found Norris through on goal as he slotted pass Keeper Calvin. A Hat trick by our No 17! Despite the widening scoreline, Gold team played better in the second half as they chased the ball and throw in good challenges to win the loose balls, causing a few panic moments in the Red team’s penalty box. The game eventually ended at 4-1 to the Red team!
