Final Score: MFC 1 - 6 Aldersgate (Alex)
Venue: Fairfield Methodist School
Before I start, I would like to remind the match of Maestro FC with Lega Caclio 1 – 1 draw which frustrated the Lega till the bursting out of heat resulted in a fight. I remembered the strength and the resilience of Maestro showed. I could see with the inclusion of RongAn, Gary and Logan, the club had grown much stronger in technical skills, there were already signs of aging PAP getting the hang of the domination regime which in the end could easily end with many matches lost.
Aldersgate was only a simple team who only depended on speed and strength. Their tactic was only pumped long ball into opposition halves and let the attackers used their strength to navigate the goals. They did not use the width of the field, did not commit mistakes and did not allow space to opposition. These “did not” elements simply destroyed opposition teams apart. The field was simply their stronghold; short, narrow and bumpy, clearly to their advantage. The ball floated from defenders to strikers, missing the midfield portion and the midfield simply used for support role and defending purposes.
Maestro wasn’t any pushover either. Maestro used to specialise individual effort of scoring touches, then slowly worked their way to brilliant workrate, free kicks aiming top corners and superb congestion defending. Weakness: First touches, passing, possession control, goalkicks, long balls, shooting, etc. Something that Maestro must really work in order to improve as a team.
The game started with a replacement referee for the official referee. Controversial first 2 goals were given by the Aldersgate’s coach, which also gave the morale boasting for Aldersgate. Maestro could not understand the referee’s decisions, the second goal was a distraction to goalkeeper which led to a simple shot not kept out by goalkeeper.
Many poor clearances and a lot of dangerous playing in the box led to goals creeping in by Aldersgate. Disappointments after disappointments affected the overall players’ morale due to individuals’ mistakes. I could not mention all the goals that conceded, it would be very hurting to Maestro as a whole.
Alex scored a free-kick after seeing a hole in the defence wall. A redemption after conceding one previously due to a dispossession in the box.
Overall, poor match.
Good Points
• None?
• Sportsmanship by Maestro, like always.
• Maestro Man of Match: Alex. Free kicks simply superb all the time.
Bad points
• Referee late? Wtf! No half price somemore! He costs us the match.
• Aldersgate dominated every part of the field.
• Closing down of strikers were not done fast enough
• Lesson learnt.
