Webby Guy: Sorry for the delay again guys.. Im into the hell weeks for SMU.. =(

The more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle

I am Chris, a veteran writer of games reports. I found out something ironic this morning, everytime I picked up the Sunday Times (Straits Times), I always turned to the sports section first. The sports page recorded people’s accomplishments; while the front page of Sunday Times often had nothing but man’s failures. Look at the Japan crisis for an example, it grabbed headlines almost daily. England won Wales 2 – 0 and no reports actually described how the negligence of England players could easily lose that particular match. That was the simple reason of why Sports page should be read first every time you flipped a newspaper.

Jose Mourinho, a manager of the Champions League winning team once mentioned that when he goes to the press conference before the game, in his mind the game has already started. Maestro has already started planning the game way before the game actually planned to happen. At the start of the game, Maestro was reminded of making a nuisance to player number 7, a destructive player that could ruin the whole good game of Maestro’s control. The task fell on Paul, a Man mainly built to bulldoze the path of the superior armour Hitler’s army. And indeed he was totally into him, such that Paul, the nuisance fly would not allow him to enjoy his meal in peace, literally.

The first goal appeared just right from the start of the game. A simple looping free-kick found his way into the Maestro’s net. Everyone watched in disbelief as it was supposed to be a simple catch by Butter fingers Gary. Gary was obviously distracted by the needs of studies, exams and perhaps newly-found love of Zirong. Nevertheless, Maestro could not blame him as he did a few of superb saves throughout the match. Maestro didn’t underestimate them, they were a lot better than we thought. Maestro was demoralised; I could see players simply walking to chase for the balls, what a shame!

However, a stroke of luck turned the mentality around. Gerald curling corner aiming at nobody, swirled into the net. I am surprised, but I always say nothing surprises me in soccer. Maestro pushed further like an adrenaline trust suddenly pumped into each other’s blood. Maestro was playing at the 3rd quarter of the pitch after that. A foul committed at the penalty box by Star FC, was only given an indirect free-kick, a dubious decision though. Later in a similar position, Alex got crush by 2 players was given a penalty. Alex converted the penalty by a simple tap-in to the right resulted Maestro leading the Star FC 1st half.

2nd Half started with control and pace by Star FC. Maestro stood the ground firmly and issued counter-attacks tactics straight at Star FC goal posts. There was a common saying - Rugby is a game played by Gentlemen; Soccer is a game played by beasts. A time-wasting effort by Gerald and Howard turned ugly when Star FC got frustrated at the tactic. They pushed Gerald to the ground and gave Howard a punch that Howard could remember for its weakness in strength. They complained that “Are you playing football or time-wasting?” I wondered did the Chinese only watch Basketball? They should understand that time-wasting strategy at the corner flag was practiced commonly by professional league teams all around the world. Arguments broke out, and Gerald was the first one to defend Howard. Everyone else got involved and wanted to break the arguments.

Gerald lost control of himself when the Star FC hurled languages against his family. Like every arguments that turned into a boxing match, family members’ foul language must be involved. You could find this typical example almost everywhere. Nobody could determine who was in the wrong, but I could say Gerald did the right thing in protecting the interest of Maestro’s players first, before he lost control of himself which was not a gentleman’s act. (No hard feelings Gerald, the team wanted me to write the report this way. And they had your interest at heart.)

A free-kick was given and a poorly taken free-kick by Alex. The ball crept into the net with deceiving kicks from Gerald.

3 – 1 was how the match ended. Despite having a poor game in terms of possession, Maestro won it with critical finishing. Well done Bees!

Good Points

· Maestro is a team whose brains are in the players. Nobody knew what the number 7 could do, but definitely not wanted to be tested.

· If a team wants to intimidate you physically and you let them, they’ve won the game. Maestro’s Gerald stood up and defended his player from continual attacks. I came from an army unit that taught me all that, and I am still proud of what Gerald did. Bravo to Gerald!

· We scored 3 goals from dead ball situation. Could anyone recall that have we ever done that before?

· The most important thing for a forward is the speed of thought. Top players read the game. Kudos to Jeffery, he had a good game. Quality from such young age could see that he surplus RongAn soon.

· Did anyone notice Paul in the game? He was harassed all the time, but he kept his cool. It was funny to watch the expression of Number 7.

· Man of the Match: Alex. Indeed, he was the luckiest man on the pitch today.

Bad Points

· Gerald, Gerald, Gerald…… The name would repeat itself until the report ended that way.

· First 10 minutes in first half – Are we having a stroll in the park?

· No arranged match next week due to lack of players? Damn @!#$%^& ……

· Chris’s blah blah blah logic in the writing of the match review…
