Final Score: CBS Marines 0 : 6 MFC (Guo Xian, Calvin 2, OG 2, Alan)
Maestro FC celebrate New Year with a Bang.
A morale boaster match organised seemingly suggesting a Chelsea VS Derby encounter. The past meeting with CBS Marines showed the lack of match stamina was their worst enemy, with Maestro leading 1 goal by half-time and pumping another 5 goals during the dreadful second half. The Chinese Internationals have a habit of losing, having occupying the comfortable last position of Sunsports league for long. Aylwin and Gerrald decided to play for the opponents, knowing their need for width of their squad.
Captain GuoXian wanted all out assault on the backline of CBS Marines, putting 3 strikers on field to threaten the weak goalkeeper (See picture). The formation proves effective as Maestro led 3 goals ahead before half-time. The first goal was found by Guo Xian with Alex being the provider, a near post offside trap beaten, a clear run at the keeper and cool finish. The goal was a good welcome -back experience for him, out for long term injury but ever hungry for goals.
The second goal was absolutely made for Calvin, who worked hard to impress his new girl. A run down the right flank and brought down by the keeper, penalty given. The goalkeeper made a whole mess about himself by allowing large space on the left goalpost, resulting in Calvin putting a simple tap-in to the left. The third goal was even more buzzard, a free-kick by Alex turned a scrambled clearance by their defence and ball ended behind the net.
From the match analysis of first half, Gerald indeed was the main ball-winning midfielders in their team. His tireless pace killed a lot of balls of Maestro. It was certain that without him, CBS could easily end up more goals behind before half-time.
A comfortable victory switched Maestro back a 4- 5- 1 formation (See pic), with attacking option mentality. The second half started off with more players heading forward, leaving Zirong and Alan behind. CBS managed to find space on the wide position, but they are unable to find the support they needed. Maestro’s defence does its job very well, cutting out passes.
The 4th goal nearly came when Zirong lashed out enormous pace to pick up a loose ball palmed away by goalkeeper. Surprisingly, he missed at 0.5 yard, a record-breaking distance missed by a player. The last record was held by Norris for missing 3 yard in a volley lashed out at goalkeeper. This was definitely the winner for miss of the season. Maestro remained positive about him, as it was a difficult ball to keep it down.
The real 4th goal was a lucky break of Maestro. A corner blown in by Alex, caught 4 black shirts scrambling for it. The ball ended up at the back of the net. Norris later commented “I was about to run there too, but they scored the goal for me”. This was a pitiful sight, watching the Chinese Internationals blaming each other for the goal.
Norris ultimate moves in his dictionary, everyone should put in their technique recipe cookbook was a dramatic fall. How many times you have watched him fall and earning a free-kicks / penalty? Plenty. A simple fall earned a penalty easily that was converted by Alan. Alan blasted the penalty that the keeper could only watch.
Maestro summarised the victory and I’m sure this post will be up everywhere to publicise our nobel win.
High Points- Goalkeeper Gary was hungry during the match, he should have a cup-noodles prepared before he wore his gloves. He was simply not needed in this match, clocking 0 saves.
- Same good scoreline as before. Maybe can buy 4-D: 0606 or 6060.
- Man of the Match: Alex, he’s simply everywhere. Despite not scoring, the classy performance earned him the 3 assists, with 2 own goal by CBS. He reminds me of Andy Reid of Sunderland (Wondering who?).
- No rough play. The referee was leaving his cards in his pockets.
- Welcoming the new girl that Calvin brought, Calvin was given a chance to take the penalty
- Players are complacent, with many passes not to feet. Some are simply lazy.
- Suspected of eating Kopi money: Zirong miss of the season. Or is that a clearance?
- Missed the fluid of RongAn’s expressive techniques. Where are all our cage’s soccer creativity?
- GuoXian aggravated injury. Is he fine after his substitution in 2nd half?
- A ball was bitten out of its skin. Bingo really enjoyed itself as much as ours.
