Final Score: CBS Marines 0 : 6 MFC (Rong an 3, Chris Tan, Gerald, Norris)
Maestro Firepower sank CBS Marines
Nobody can forget how Maestro wet the ladies’ appetite for more goals from the crowd as Maestro spirited response turned in spectacular fashion with a sensational 6 – 0 win. The win came at the right possible time after facing difficult times in the previous few matches to get results.
The game started well with a response of 15 players; noticeably with the returning Kartik, who showed no nonsense to Lega with his new haircut; and a cockroach hidden in Chris’s boots. Captain GuoXian, recovering from a chronic injury decided to lead the team by playing the goalkeeper. Additionally, he risked the team defence in search for goals in front by playing a 3 – 5 -2 formation which proved to be decisive in this game.
There was energy, effort and endeavour, and most crucially a lack of errors that was the main reason behind their embarrassing downfall against the sailors. Defensive-Midfielder Chris epitomised the difference as he was willing to chase balls to the left wing to right wing, and when required he also tracked back to play his part in defence. Chris was also the man who ran down a counter-attack on the left flank to create an assist to Norris for the 4th goal of the match and a simple tap in for the 5th goal of the match.
But for the limelight of this match goes to the season top-scorer Rong An. He had played the best football in his career so far, who had devilish destructed the Marines with 3 goals. The first goal came in the third minute when a cross from Alex, send him a simple header into the open net. This was the first goal headed in by Rong An from my vivid memory. He moved like a shadow fiend with the pace of Walcott and a sniping finish like Torres. In the last goal of the match, he ran down tirelessly down the left-flank to finish off the aimless goalkeeper with a slot in at the corner of the post.
The goals obviously could not be possible with the playmaker Alex setting up Rong An’s 3rd goal. Alex was also the contributor of the first goal as well. His splendid performance was perhaps due to the presence of his new girlfriend. From the game, he was hungry for balls, asking everyone to give a pass to him so he can do a distribution out to the rest. He had a couple of missed shots which went screamingly close to the post at times. Good effort from the veteran.
When everything went fantastic, it was definitely not a person’s effort. If you studied close enough to the match, if Rong An was prince charming, then the position of Shrek was definitely Gerald. He was the orchestra of this play. He did all the hard work at the back and front of the goal. He netted the 2nd goal in the early minutes of 2nd half, where a wonderful pass to him slotted in into the net at far post. If you are playing the fantasy game, I’ll give him the ranking of 9 / 10 points.
Nobody can understand how Norris missed the less than 1 metre shot in the previous match. However, this time he made no mistake by shooting more than “60 yards” out. The goalkeeper’s dive was not even close in denying such a splendid effort. He had a good match despite a sticky muddy condition at the side he was playing. “JiaLat, Ni shoot Gei Wo Kan lah, say so much!” he frantically shout to his partner in crime, Alex.
Where came the clean sheet without the relentless hassling of Wee Hian, Alan, Eric, and Walter? The coolest defence line simply sweated it out with the reckless Marines strikers. Alan had a few strong challenges which broke down the strikers’ engine. Returning Eric from injury, showed his maturity in defence as well. Lastly, I was amazingly impressed by the improvement of Walter’s support in the attack.
Miss of the match: Birthday boy Aylwin had 2 shots that went agonizing close to the post. One shot after a header from corner fell to him, and he unleashed a shot that was saved by the keeper. He had showed improvement on how he dealed with the ball.
Funniest moment of the match: Have you seen a panicky yet calm keeper of GuoXian. He certainly scared the shit out of the already depleted Maestro’s defence and yet he was calmed in dealing all the balls brought to him in save hands. How panicky? The parried away shots were certainly not defenders wished for. Everyone scrambled to clear the balls for him. How calm? Ever see a goalkeeper playing like a midfielder? He stood as far away to the mid-way line and still managed to run back to save a few balls. Good effort from him though, it was never easy to play the keeper.
Tackle of the match: Kartik had a leg breaking challenge. What a brave act for the new haircut Adebayor (Dawn’s remarks), this was no nonsense from the Chao Recruit.
FIFA Fairplay winner: Gerald. He apologized to the opposition after hurting him with words of sexual content. Though there was a brawl of words, he simply turned away and said something a MAN could hardly spelled out “Sorry”.
Worst of the match: I could not remember anything bad about the match. Perhaps, Wee Hian throw-in foul. No excuse for that.
Hungry soul of the match: Jason. He had his lunch during the match which delayed his substitution into the game. What an energy boast, anyway he threw away his half-eaten bread or something when GuoXian questioned him whether he finished his meal or not.
Best Thank to the match: Augustine. Who wouldn’t mind to be hated for collecting bad debts for soccer matches? To hang a pig’s head, you got to have a character on your own first.
Sorry to other names not discussed. Its kinda late already, time to wrap up the game.
High Points
- Man of the Match: It was a difficult decision. From Statistics, Rong An scored the most points in the game. Gerald had a better game, additionally saying the word “Sorry” which is not found in the dictionary in many of us. Gerald deserved the award.
- 1st Half only 1 goal. 2nd half = 5 goals. Where the adenine rush came from?
- Without Gary, GuoXian could also keep clean-sheet. Good work to the defence.
- Maestro saw the creative play today. Passing were terrific despite pitch condition, finishing was clinical even with tough opponents
- High morale, high spirits lifted Maestro to greater heights.
- For shots not scored, blame the pitch.
- Hope nobody came out injured despite rough opponents putting in dirty plays.
- 9 Substitutions? Old Lee questioned the referee on how many Maestro already made.
- Statistically, whenever we win big, we got complacent, and eventually we will lose the next subsequent match.
