11/7/2010 MFC Blue Vs MFC Gold Match Review

Match Review by Gerald Tan
Final Score: MFC Gold 6 : 4 MFC Blue (Rong An 2, Hakim 1, Marco 1, Gifford 1, Guo Xian 1, Norris 2, Howard 1, Chris 1)

With a great turnout of about 23 players including Alan's friends, MFC could afford to play with 2 teams- Blue and Gold!

With the players spilt into 2 teams, the game started off with MFC Blue dictating the gameplay. Focusing on possession and passing, MFC Gold could not get the ball of MFC Blue. With all the possession, MFC Blue had some good chances but could not convert them into goals. MFC Gold played in a different style, adopting a counter attacking style of play. With the strength of Gifford, MFC Gold launched counter attacks from midfield and their style of play paid off with Gifford getting the first goal.

A second goal from Guo Xian sank the hearts of MFC Blue; Guo Xian scoring with an exquisite chip over keeper Cross. MFC Blue did not give up though and their passing game soon bore fruit with Hakim scoring from a long range shot which lobbed just past the diving Gary.

At half time, MFC Gold switched their tactics and started to deploy Norris and Alex in the midfield with Chris Tan supporting from the back. The game play worked as Norris was effective in chasing loose balls in the midfield and MFC Gold did very well to counter attack each time MFC Blue lost the ball.

Howard, Norris all benefited from the counter attacks as they put more goals past Calvin who was MFC Blue keeper. Norris in particular was fast in attack and he caused MFC Blue to make defensive errors which he benefited from, scoring 2 in the process.

With MFC Blue trailing to a large deficit, the only way to continue was to push forward and enjoy the ball possession. Towards the end of the game, that worked as MFC Blue started to score some to bring some parity to the scores.

Rong An was a threat throughout as he tortured the MFC Gold defence with his drating runs and fast direction changes. He scored twice for MFC Blue and Alan's friend, Marco also got on the score sheet with a well taken goal after Alan had provided the assist. More goals could have been scored if MFC Blue was more clinical and if Gary was not between the posts!

At the end of the match, the final score was 6:4 to MFC Gold and everyone had a good time. It was really a game of 2 styles- MFC Blue with a passing game while MFC Gold relied on fast counter attacks. It was a good show of both strengths that reside within MFC.

High Points
1) Good turnout for the first time!
2) Rong An played very well as he showed his pace, power and strength throughout the match
3) Howard did well in his first match back after a long hiatus..in Milan!
4) Gifford was very effective upfront alone; his pace and strength was too much for the defenders!

Low Points
1) Lost a ball and the reaction of MFC players was very disappointing. MFC players need to take more responsibility for the items we purchased using the club funds.
