27/6/2010 MFC Vs NNF FC Match Review

Match Review by Gerald Tan
Final Score: MFC 7 : 0 NNF FC (Alex 2, Rong An 2, Own Goal 2, Jonathan 1)

MFC strutted their stuff on a wet and muddy pitch today against new opponents NNF FC. Romping to a 7-0 win, MFC certainly was the more incisive team with more clinical finishing as compared to the opponents.

Starting with a 4-5-1 formation, MFC set out to contain NNF FC but early proceedings was in NNF FC's favour as they maintained possession quite well. However, that possession was soon turned over to MFC once MFC started to push further upfront and pinning NNF FC back into their own half.

The first goal was an own goal borne out of sheer determination by Augustine. He chased down a defender on the right wing, won possession and delivered a cross which came off the head of a NNF FC defender and into their own goal. The second goal also soon came, with Jonathan making a simple tap in after the goalkeeper spilled a routine save from a long shot.

NNF FC was out of ideas and with MFC players putting on pressure, NNF was unable to play their game or string attacks. They were reduced to half chances, thanks to excellent back tracking by Chris Tan and good defence coordination by centre backs Norris and Alan. Gerald almost made it 3-0 when he got the ball into the net but the referee discounted it as an offside attempt.

The first half did end 3-0 to MFC after Alex delivered another long range shot which slipped through the hands of the NNF keeper ala Robert Green. MFC started the second half with a clean sheet in mind and the players all kept their focus from the start, cancelling any chances from NNF FC and reducing them to only a few shots on goal.

The floodgates soon opened for MFC after Rong An added 2 more goals. Both goals were similar as he chased down the ball and beat the goalkeeper one on one. Guo Xian also got into action, as he darted past the NNF midfield and defence from the half way line. The NNF keeper came off his line for a clearance but the ball hit a NNF defender's head and was deflected into the goal for a second own goal of the match.

There was almost a third own goal as a NNF FC player headed an MFC cross against the crossbar. As the time ran down, MFC never stopped attacking as the players looked for more goals.

The match finally ended 7-0 to MFC and it was an emphatic win for MFC. Though gameplay was not at its sharpest and possession was minimal, MFC's defence and midfield did a hell lot of heckling and tackling to starve NNF of ball possession and MFC's attackers were at their sharpest. Overall, it was a good game for MFC.

High Points
1) 7 goals. Nuff said.
2) Good initiative by players to sub themselves out to give everyone a chance to play
3) All the players played well with a lot of heart
4) Defence was tight, with the line playing well to grant NNF plenty of offsides

Low Points
1) Muddy pitch
2) MFC need to play more possession and remain calm instead of opting for first time long balls.
