Final Score: Young Wolf FC 5 : 5 MFC (Guo Xian 1, Gifford 1, Alex 1, Kartik 1, Augustine 1)
MFC this week played Young Wolf FC, opponents not unfamiliar to MFC. Previous meetings yielded in 2 wins for MFC so a win was on the cards today. There were enough players too, 16 players turned up for the 2nd league match encounter but nothing could have prepared the 16 players for what was to come.
The match kicked off to a great start for MFC as Young Wolf struggled to set the pace of the game.It was not long before MFC opened the goalscoring floodgates. A long pass from Gerald found Guo Xian lurking on the left flank and he glided past the defence before putting the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Not resting on our laurels, Guo Xian turned provider this time for Kartik to score during a counter attack. 2-0 to MFC and it looked like MFC was cruising until Young Wolf decided to rewrite the plot. First, Young Wolf scored from a cross and then they scored an equalizer, this time from far the penalty area. A Young Wolf player made the left flank his own and after a good cut in from the left flank, he unleashed an unstoppable shot which could only leave Calvin flapping. MFC was shellshocked and just when the team was regaining composure, Young Wolf took the lead for the first time with a smiliar type goal as the 2nd goal.
Young Wolf was on the rise and they further extended their lead by another goal to make it 4-2 at half time. This time, the goal was suspiciously offside but the referee gave it anyway.
The mood during half time was sombre. However, after the half time team talk, MFC returned to battle with renewed vigour and MFC did not disappoint, scoring 3 goals in quick succession of 5 to 10 mins to make the score at 5 : 4. Firstly, Augustine got on the scoresheet when his clever run down the flank was rewarded with a goal courtesy of a acute angle shot. Guo Xian, particularly threatening around the penalty area was brought down just outside the penalty are. Free Kick specialist Alex stepped up to the mantle and it was within his range. His freekick evaded the goalkeeper, making it 4 : 4.
MFC were flying at this point and Young Wolf's concentration was shattered. Sensing the opportunity to regain the lead, MFC pushed hard and eventually got it courtesy of Gifford. Alex released a good long ball from midfield into Gifford who blazed down the right flank before cutting in putting an unstoppable shot past the goalkeeper. It was stuff dreams are made of as MFC regained the lead from being 2 goals down.
Young Wolf was struggling to find momentum with their main playmaker being shackled well by Silas. Credit to Young Wolf who did not give up and fought even harder for an equalizer. Young Wolf was exceptional in set pieces and they finally got the equalizer via an uncleared corner.
With both teams looking for the winning goal, tempers flared on the pitch when tackles were flying everywhere. On one occasion, a Young Wolf player was sent off late in the match after being shown the 2nd yellow card. With 4 mins remaining against 10 men, MFC could not get the winner and it was a disappointment of sorts once the referee signalled for the end of the match
