1/11/2009 MFC Vs Young Wolf United Match Review

Match Review by Gerald Tan
Final Score: Young Wolf United 3 : 6 MFC (Guo Xian 1, Norris 2, Alex 2, Howard 1)

After a week of no field soccer, MFC returned back to the pitches of Katong for a friendly with Young Wolf United. The team available was strong, with Hanrong making a return to the team.Having beaten Young WOlf before, it was all smiles and the confidence of victory was evident. MFC also welcomed back Wee Hian; who decided to rejoin MFC for matches.

MFC did not disappointed; they blitzed past Young Wolf with several chances which went begging. MFC dominated the first 10 minutes and were unlucky not to be ahead. Norris soon notched up the first goal with a very well headed ball.
At the end of a slick attack move involving Guo Xian, Norris and Alex, Guo Xian turned provider and he crossed into the penalty area for Norris to head for goal and it was a beauty of a header.1-0 to MFC!

That was not the end. Guo Xian stretched the lead to 2 by capitalizing on a defence mistake and he made no mistake from close range. Alex then added a 3rd with a well taken freekick which beat the Young Wolf keeper.

Young Wolf also had chances of their own but they all went begging. They were awarded a penalty as well but MFC keeper Calvin did well to parry the ball and deny Young Wolf United a goal.

The second half was a more exciting area in terms of competition between the 2 teams.Young Wolf finally got a goal to their name when
a Young Wolf attacker beat MFC's defence and blast the ball into the goal.

Looking to further score more goals in the second half, MFC gave the Young Wolf defence a torrid time and got 3 more goals. The first, Howard, was at the tip of a fast passing movement in the second half and once the ball was released to him, Howard beat his marker and put the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Though MFC was leading at this point in time, complacency must have crept into MFC's gameplay and that allowed Young Wolf to claw back by scoring twice with 5 minutes. MFC hit back with an excellent response; Alex and Norris would both go onto score more goals; Alex's 2nd goal was an excellent shot on target from long range and Norris sealed the victory with a late goal.

The victory was hard earned and MFC did well to hold off any potential attacks. Kudos to all MFCians!

High Points
1) Welcome back for former MFC defender Wee Hian
2) MFC scoring 6 good goals. To this writer, Norris' opening goal for the macth was the best so far.
3) Excellent weather for soccer
4) More MFC players requested to be substituted today instead of waiting for Eric to start the substitutions, to ensure that everyone gets some form of soccer match but not not them anymore.

Low Points
1) MFC is still quite weak in its ball passing.
2) No clean sheet
