This coming weekend, you might be approached by SMU students doing recruitment for blood donation at places like City Hall, Vivocity, Clarke Quay, Bugis, Plaza Singapura.
This blood donation drive is especially important because during the upcoming festive period, many accidents happen and there is usually a severe shortage of blood. Your blood donation might be able to save up to 3 lives during this festive period of giving and sharing.
So if you meet any of the blood donation recruiters on the streets or MRT station, please do sign up. You are eligible for donation if you are:
1) Not on any medication
2) Not HIV positive
3) Weight more than 45kg
4) Age between 16 to 60 years old
The actual blood donation will be next weekend (19,20,21 December) but by signing up this weekend, you can book a slot for yourself, reducing the waiting time. For those of you who do not signup but still wish to donate blood, you can walk in to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station on 19,20,21 December to donate.
Blood donation is NOT painful as the nurses there will inject you with painkillers first to remove any pain from the needle insertion. The amount of blood you will be donating is about 450ml; approx. slightly bigger than Newater bottle size.
Do something nice for the community this festive period by donating blood. It will really go a long way in helping those in need. Don't forget to ask your partners or other friends along too:0)
