Match Review by Alan Chiang
Maestro FC 2 – 4 Sunsport Outside FC. Six goals thriller. One winner.
The physique of the Nigerians, dominated with quick succession goals, were the winners of the game. Maestro began the match with positive plays and gained tremendous possession for the entire first half. Mid-way through the first half, Guo Xian, leading striker of Maestro, scored the first goal of the game after skipping past the Nigerians’ backline. But they managed to equalize just before the break and kept the score line 1-1 at half time.
Since the match is considered a walkover, Captain Walter exploited different tactics and introduced new players with new positioning. New players such as Augustine, Benjamin, Darren, Chris, Silas, etc were tried at diverse parts of the pitch and increased their exposure to the game. Maestro had the advantage of three substitutions to rotate around. Maestro also tried a new 4-4-2 formation which was working out well.
However, the Nigerian team got off to a great start for the second half and managed to score two quick succession goals within minutes to take the game to 3-1 score line.
Gerald continued to impress and scored one as the keeper failed to get safe hands to the ball. However, the game is yet to be over. Maestro fought hard and continued to gain possession of the match. Maestro had witnessed one of the better games with great passes and distribution, but they were unable to turn huge possession into goals. The Nigerian keeper reserved his cool throughout the game and kept our strikers at bay.
Chris partnered Guo Xian for the first time and the results proved fruitful. With better understanding and more playing time together, they may form a deadly strike partnership.
Nigerians then capitalized on Maestro’s attacking tactics and took advantage of the empty midfield and exposed flanks and scored the final goal of the game.
Although the Nigerians played much of the match with 9-man, they made use of long-ball tactics and counted on their speedy strikers to break the Maestro’s backline who consists of Zi Rong, Alan, Eric, Silas. If Maestro midfielders could stop the long passes, the score line would have been different.
Maestro might reflect on that game and improved further. The potential for the team to achieve greater heights is certain and soaring.
